Typography III (GRF 312) – Typography IV (GRF 412) Undergraduate, Compulsory, Theory - Studio
(2nd year, 3rd & 4th semesters, 2 hrs/week)
The aim of these courses is to develop and improve the student’s basic grammar skills in typography, to guide them in creating an approach to understanding typography as a ‘language’ and to use their basic typography skills in solving diverse graphic design problems.

Typographic Design I (GRF 514) – Typographic Design II (GRF 614) Undergraduate, Elective, Studio
(3rd year, 5th & 6th semesters, 2 hrs/week)
Students are given projects investigating the relationship between typography and language in the context of graphic design, enabling them to understand the ideaof the ‘typographic image’ and its additions to communication in graphic design. Beyond solving the design problems by using typographical tools, this course focuses on creating a ‘design problem’ itself within the text.

Graphic Design I-II-III-IV-V-VI (GRF 301-801)
Undergraduate, Compulsory, Studio
(2nd, 3rd, 4th years; from 3rd to 8th semesters, 8-10 hrs/week)
Graphic design projects are the core courses of the department. The student commences these project courses at the beginning of the second year, ending with the ‘diploma project’ that is carried out in the last semester of the 4th grade. During this course, each term is devoted to a project from a different field. The main objectives of the courses are to enable the student to develop an in-depth answer to the different graphic design problems and to approach graphic design in a systematic context, utilising the critical and creative tools developed in this module.

The History of Turkish Graphic Design (GRF 619) Undergraduate, Compulsory, Theory
(3rd year, 6th semester, 2 hrs/week)
In this course, the evolution of Turkish graphic design is traced and examined from the establishment of the Republic of Turkey to the present. The visual language of the design works are analysed with elected examples within the context of social background.

Post-Graduate, Elective, Theory - Studio (4 hrs/week)
This course focuses on the history, theory and design of the ‘book’ through the main axis of graphic design. The aim of the course is to enable the students who have acquired knowledge/experience in book design in undergraduate education to be able to establish relations with the book from a detailed investigative perspective, taking in current intellectual and aesthetic concerns. Beyond the general approach to book design, the probabilities of undertaking the function of the book as a formal narrative tool are explored.
